{"id":210300,"date":"2024-02-27T08:56:13","date_gmt":"2024-02-27T08:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/za\/2024\/02\/27\/ramaphosa-extends-sars-boss-kieswetters-term-for-two-years\/"},"modified":"2024-02-27T08:56:13","modified_gmt":"2024-02-27T08:56:13","slug":"ramaphosa-extends-sars-boss-kieswetters-term-for-two-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/za\/2024\/02\/27\/ramaphosa-extends-sars-boss-kieswetters-term-for-two-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Ramaphosa extends Sars boss Kieswetter\u2019s term for two years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/image-prod.iol.co.za\/16x9\/800?source=https:\/\/xlibris.public.prod.oc.inl.infomaker.io:8443\/opencontent\/objects\/73fc3390-2d73-5a39-b270-0e5dd5100320\" class=\"type:primaryImage\"><\/p>\n<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended the term of South African Revenue Service (Sars) head Edward Kieswetter by two years.<\/p>\n<p>Kieswetter\u2019s term of office was expected to end in April, but Ramaphosa has agreed to keep him in the position for another two years.<\/p>\n<p>Ramaphosa first announced a few weeks ago that he was keeping Kieswetter longer to allow for stability in the revenue service.<\/p>\n<p>Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana also raised this issue during his briefing on the Budget.<\/p>\n<p>The Presidency confirmed on Tuesday that Kieswetter will continue to be in charge of Sars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decision follows the agreement the President and Mr Kieswetter, to extend the tenure of the commissioner to enable an orderly leadership transition in the organisation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr Kieswetter will continue leading the execution of the current strategic direction of the revenue service, while ensuring a smooth leadership transition,\u201d said Ramaphosa\u2019s spokesperson Vincent Magwenya.<\/p>\n<p>Kieswetter was appointed head of Sars in 2019 after he was interviewed by a panel.<\/p>\n<p>He was recommended to lead the revenue service for five years.
