It\u2019s been almost 24hours since \u201ccoloured\u201d started trending after Wayde van Niekerk <\/span><\/a>won SA\u2019s first gold medal at the Rio Olympics. Back home it\u2019s been the battle of who should claim Wayde, South Africans, Blacks or Coloureds? Of course AKA offered his two sense on the debate that has almost overshadowed Wayde\u2019s historic win. \u2018I identify with being coloured but I consider myself black,\u2019 -AKA.<\/p>\n

In a series of tweets, the rapper pointed out that \u201cto say Wayde\u2019s victory does not fall under black excellence is just as equally ridiculous as to deny Coloured people this as a victory for their community and \u2018race’\u201d.<\/p>\n

As for himself, AKA says despite twitter telling him numerous times how he\u2019s not \u201cblack\u201d he sees himself as one. \u201cI have been told numerous times, especially here on Twitter that I am not \u201cblack\u201d \u2026 Fortunately, it\u2019s not up to \u201cpeople\u201d to say who I am,\u201d he tweeted.<\/p>\n

\u201cI identify 100% with being Coloured(in terms of upbringing and family) and at the same time consider myself \u201cblack\u201d within that context,\u201d the rapper concluded.<\/p>\n
