Hundreds of mineworkers who were allegedly held hostage underground at Gold One Mine in Springs, Johannesburg, are expected to emerge from the mine at 2pm.<\/p>\n
This is according to the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) delegate at the mine, Musa Khalipha.<\/p>\n
It was reported earlier that some of the miners were coming out from underground.<\/p>\n
In a brief interview, Khalipha told that the all miners that were underground will resurface on Wednesday in an effort to prevent further injury to them.<\/p>\n
According to what he heard, miners had given up their alleged \u201csit-in\u201d and wanted to come back up.<\/p>\n
\u201cMiners sent messages to some of the leadership on the group, telling them that they want to end their sit-in,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
It was reported that over 500 miners were being held hostage after they were prevented from coming up at the end of their shift on Sunday night.<\/p>\n
Private security, the South African Police Service, as well as emergency services are on the scene, inside the mine grounds. Amcu and NUM-affiliated workers are outside the mine waiting for their colleagues to surface.<\/p>\n
