{"id":194369,"date":"2023-08-29T07:47:17","date_gmt":"2023-08-29T07:47:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/za\/2023\/08\/29\/rebuilding-a-must-for-new-western-cape-ancwl\/"},"modified":"2023-08-29T07:47:17","modified_gmt":"2023-08-29T07:47:17","slug":"rebuilding-a-must-for-new-western-cape-ancwl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/za\/2023\/08\/29\/rebuilding-a-must-for-new-western-cape-ancwl\/","title":{"rendered":"Rebuilding a must for new Western Cape ANCWL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/image-prod.iol.co.za\/16x9\/800?source=https:\/\/xlibris.public.prod.oc.inl.infomaker.io:8443\/opencontent\/objects\/2fab5b9a-c93f-5b57-92b2-adae5fb74e08\" class=\"type:primaryImage\"><\/p>\n<p>The newly-elected ANC Women\u2019s League in the Western Cape said on Monday it would focus on rebuilding the organisation and uniting all women in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The league convened an elective conference and elected new leadership in Cape Town after being without a formally elected leadership since 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Other provinces such as Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and the Northern Cape held their conferences in recent weeks after the national elective conference in July where the mother body elected its leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the <em id=\"emphasis-3e4a2b20c6293527af2ecac06331df4d\">Cape Times<\/em>, new chairperson Sindiswa Sambokwe said she was delighted that they finally held the conference in the Western Cape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am relieved and happy that we no longer have a provincial task team (PTT) anymore,\u201d Sambokwe said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were the only structure in the Western Cape that did not have an elected leadership,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Sambokwe, who is a councillor in the Drakenstein District Municipality, was elected as the new provincial chairperson along with ANC chief whip in Theewaterskloof municipality Bongiwe Mkhwibiso as deputy chairperson. <\/p>\n<p>Thozama Bevu was elected as the provincial secretary.<\/p>\n<p>Connie Croates was voted in as deputy provincial secretary and Lumka Tamboer as the provincial treasurer.<\/p>\n<p>Sambokwe said their immediate task was to bring unity in the Women\u2019s League and ensure it was built on an on-going basis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are foreign things that have come into the organisation and as the elected leaders we need to deal with them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to get rid of money that is being used to buy members,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to focus on rebuilding the ANC Women\u2019s League and unite all women not just within the ANC but in the whole of society,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Sambokwe also said as the new leadership, they would want to take charge in the fight against gender-based violence.<\/p>\n<p>She said they would also build strong branches of the Women\u2019s league and ensure that they revived membership in areas that were without structures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t want our members and branches to lose their membership status,\u201d she said, adding that they would come up with a programme for the entire province.<\/p>\n<p>The ANC Women\u2019s League has 300-odd potential branches in the Western Cape.<\/p>\n<p>Only 166 branches were in good standing when the provincial conference was held at the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Sambokwe said as the 2024 elections were nearing, the women\u2019s league would play an important role in increasing the ANC vote in the province.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe as women want to rise above and claim the victory of women,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She also noted that communities were often forgetting what the ANC led government had done for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will come up with a strategy and compile the successes of the ANC government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong id=\"strong-94841c84245d0ce5ab1f0f1a61dc963e\">Cape Times<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The newly-elected ANC Women\u2019s League in the Western Cape said on Monday it would focus on rebuilding the organisation and uniting all women in the country.
