The death toll in South Africa as a result of COVID-19 is now 53,995.<\/h2>\n

This comes after 55 new deaths were recorded and in the past 24 hours, more than 34,000 COVID-19 tests were conducted.<\/p>\n

So far, the total number of tests conducted stands at 10,447,673 with the total number of cases hitting 1,571,348.<\/p>\n

The distribution of the death among the various regions are: Eastern Cape reported 11, the Free State 14, Gauteng 20, Kwa-Zulu Natal 3, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga 1, the North West 0, the Northern Cape 0 and the Western Cape 6.<\/p>\n

Speaking in a recent submission, Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize said;<\/p>\n

\u201cWe convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over one million people have already recovered from the virus with the exact number of recoveries being 1,496,756 representing a recovery rate of 95%.<\/p>\n

In other news, the historic windmill, Mostert\u2019s Mill in Mowbray, Cape Town has been destroyed by the current wildfire that hit Cape Town.<\/p>\n

Mostert\u2019s Mill was a historic windmill in Mowbray, Cape Town, and itwas built in 1796. This was the oldest surviving and only complete windmill in South Africa, however, it is now no more.<\/p>\n

It was initially a private mill on the farm Welgelegen, owned by Gysbert van Renen and was named after his son-in-law, Sybrand Mostert, after Van Renen\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

It was the first privately owned mill in Cape Town, Cape Colony. Prior to the Br itish occupation of the Cape in the Battle of Muizenberg in 1795, only mills controlled by the Dutch East India Company were allowed.<\/p>\n
