NAS Marks Park Royals and the Diadora XI were the respective winners of the Men’s and Women’s sections after the fourth edition of the Jozi Cup, South Africa’s premier T20 winter club cricket competition, concluded on Sunday with an exhilarating finale at the iconic DP World Wanderers Stadium.

Over the course of seven weeks, more than 130 teams from across the country showcased their skills, ensuring there was something for everyone, from the talented Under 11s to the seasoned Over 40s.

Tournament Director Reuben Mandlazi emphasised that the Jozi Cup is a unique competition that ignites passion and determination amongst players and coaches alike.

“This tournament is honestly like no other. Clubs rally their troops and bring their A-Game throughout, knowing full well that the scouts are out hunting,” said Mandlazi.

He added that the Telkom Talent Acceleration Programme further elevates the stakes, leading to exponential growth and development within the sport.

A feature of the Jozi Cup is its diversity and inclusion and the competition showcased it even further this year with the addition of an Under-13 girls section.

Featuring five teams that played eight round-robin matches, the girls enjoyed ample game time, fostering their skills and paving the way for a stronger future in women’s cricket.

Shaun Pretorius, the leader of Lions Women’s Cricket, expressed pride in their product and aspirations for future growth.

“Witnessing the talent already present at the U13 girls level is so rewarding,” Pretorius said.

Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright also noted the tournament’s community-driven ethos, stating: “Every year, the clubs and the communities step up and deliver outstanding cricket and unwavering commitment.”
