The American Black Film Festival is one of the most important events in the industry, especially for Black filmmakers. It celebrates stories from Black creatives around the world, including feature films, documentaries, and short films. Known for its mission to uplift and showcase diverse voices, the ABFF brings together filmmakers, actors, producers, and fans from across the globe.

Lethabo Mekoa’s inclusion in this year’s lineup is a huge milestone in her growing career. Known for her popular role as Ntswaki on Skeem Saam, she is no stranger to recognition. Just last year, she was honoured with the Viewer’s Choice Award for Best Female Actor at the 7th Royalty Soapy Awards in 2024 — proof that fans and industry professionals alike are taking notice of her talent.

As Lethabo gets ready to share Balaclava with international audiences, her talent is now being recognised on a global scale. With the film making its way to major platforms like the ABFF, she’s gaining attention not only in South Africa but across the world.
