A witness involved in the Madlanga Commission has been shot dead.
National South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that police were alerted to a shooting in Brendhurt, in Brakpan, on Friday night.
Police were on their way to the scene. The identity of the witness is unclear at this stage. Police are investigating further.
Suspended Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu, faced intense questioning on Thursday and Friday. This grilling focused on his role in disbanding the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
Mchunu’s appearance follows revelations of political interference in police work, made by KZN Police Commissioner, LT-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Mchunu conceded that National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola, with whom he confirmed having “a good working relationship”, should have been the first to advise on the future of the PKTT.
