Actress and content creator Rorisang Mohapi is living out the dreams she once feared she would never reach. Speaking to Drum, she opened up about her breakthrough journey, the personal loss that shaped her path, and the love story that led to her upcoming wedding.
For years, Rorisang struggled to find her place in the entertainment industry.
“For a long time, I was trying to get into the industry, and I struggled to figure out where I should go and who I should talk to. At some point, I was just in the background, and I ended up giving up because I knew I was meant to be a star.”
Her life changed in October 2023 during a heartbreaking moment. “In October 2023, my brother passed on, and in that week, I had to audition for the Lulama role, which I ended up getting. I was going through a lot because I didn’t know if I should celebrate or mourn.”
Her mother encouraged her to go forward, offering words that stayed with her. “My mother said, ‘Just do it, you’re back home in PE because you wanted to spend more time with family, so maybe this will be the reason why we smile once again after this tragic incident.’”
That audition marked the beginning of a new chapter. One opportunity opened doors to many others, teaching her to trust God’s timing and appreciate the shortness of life.
After being rebellious in high school and often disappointing her parents, she now feels grateful to hear them proudly speak of her achievements. Their pride has helped the family heal through their grief.
At just 23, Rorisang has already achieved great success. She has acted on House of Zwide and stars in the dramedy Kwa-Tsholo. She will also make her debut on Netflix’s Love and Wine this festive season. However, she remains humble.
“I was a part of it briefly, but I will officially say I got an opportunity on Netflix when I am the star of the show… and it’s coming, it’s in the works,” she says.
“I’ve been praying for it, God has been working overtime!”
Alongside her career, her love life has also blossomed. Rorisang recently got engaged to fellow actor Prince Grootboom, with whom she has been sharing heart-warming moments on social media.
Their love story began unexpectedly. “It was fate, we met each other on a dance floor in 2022. Both of us were busy with our own little things, but we somehow still drew towards each other. At the time, we didn’t exchange numbers and never got to see each other again until last year at an audition.”
Every time they met, their connection grew stronger until they finally explored it. Eight months into their relationship, Prince proposed—and Rorisang instantly said yes.
“He is the male version of me; we match and like the same things. It’s not hard. We’re getting married after Christmas. I love that man to death.”
