Stellenbosch FC aims for back-to-back wins in the CAF Confederation Cup clash in Zanzibar

On Sunday, Stellenbosch FC will play Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar, aiming to build on their recent success in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Following a last-gasp 1-0 victory against AS Otoho last week in Polokwane, the South African visitors are hoping to secure their second consecutive Group C win.

Stellenbosch followed up with a midweek domestic win, which has boosted the team’s confidence.

Coach Steve Barker expressed optimism following a spirited performance in which his team came from behind to win 2-1 against Orbit College, just days after their continental victory.

“Hopefully, that (win against Orbit) can give us confidence that we’re never out of the game and that if we keep pushing hard and never giving up, anything is possible,” Barker stated.

He emphasised the importance of these wins, noting that they could instil trust and belief in the team’s strategy moving forward.

On the other hand, Singida Black Stars find themselves in a precarious position. They are currently languishing at the bottom of Group C after suffering a 2-0 defeat to CR Belouizdad last Saturday.

As they seek to revive their campaign, the Tanzanian outfit will be eager to turn frustrations into fortitude on home soil.

This upcoming encounter promises to be a tactical battle, as both teams showcase unique styles of play. Singida Black Stars’ approach centres on a balance between offensive strength and a robust defensive organisation, a strategy they will need to refine after last week’s setback.

In contrast, Stellenbosch relies heavily on pressing high up the pitch and executing quick transitions to capitalise on opponent errors. This clash of styles is likely to play a crucial role in determining the match’s outcome.

Fans can expect a closely contested match, with both teams feeling the pressure as they vie for critical points in the tournament.

A win for Stellenbosch could fortify their position in the group and boost morale, while Singida Black Stars will strive to claim redemption on their home turf.
