After nailing her role on Inimba as Thumeka, Mfenyana, a South African actress and model, has been awarded the Best Actress in a TV Drama award at the National Film and TV Awards. The actress first gained recognition with a role in Mfundi Vundla’s SABC 1 soap opera, Generations.
However, Mfenyana was among the 16 actors dismissed from the show on August 18, 2014, following a week-long strike. Soon after she departed from Generations, she was cast in the E-TV drama, Ashes to Ashes.
Mfenyana’s presence on television has led to national recognition. She has featured in numerous popular shows, including Ashes to Ashes, Igazi, The River, and Happy Family.

She has now finally won an award for her role in the drama Inimba as Thumeka. “Inimba is a story of multi-faceted themes: looking at the challenges of being traditionally married while pursuing a career, a mother’s love and her attempt to regain the family she lost, and the complexities of family dynamics where there has been hurt and betrayal. It’s a story that will surely have viewers coming for more,” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
Siphosethi Tshapu, the writer of Inimba, took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Mfenyana, writing, “So well deserved, congratulations.” Mfenyana responded to the post, expressing her gratitude: “Thank you so much Sipho. Thank you for creating this top-tier character. She has stretched and challenged me in ways I’ve never been challenged before.”

One fan, Jay_Koke, expressed support for Mfenyana’s win: “They always say timing is everything. And she’s proven it — a woman who keeps showing up, pouring into her craft, not for praise but for purpose. God’s timing never misses. Zenande Mfenyana has officially won Best Actress in a TV Drama for #INIMBA at the #NFTA.”
This triumph is a highly significant milestone in Mfenyane’s 10-year journey of honing her acting skills, serving as living proof that patience and hard work truly yield rewards.
