Cape Town City star Keagan Dolly has poured cold water on speculation that he earned millions when he was at Kaizer Chiefs.
After a trophy-laden three years with Mamelodi Sundowns, and four years in France, Dolly joined Amakhosi in 2021 and was expected to play a key role in helping the club achieve their targets.
Because he had experience in winning trophies and had joined the club from Europe, it was speculated that he took home as much as R1.4 million a month.
In an interview with KickOff, Dolly has refuted the rumours, saying that while he did make a good living with the club, it wasn’t close to what he was said to have been earning.

“It was not close, not even! I don’t think there’s a player in the history of the PSL that earned close to that. Probably a year, not a month,” the former Mamelodi Sundowns star was quoted as saying by the publication.
“The figures weren’t close to that. It was good money, it was decent money that my family and I were happy to sign with Chiefs,” he said.
“Chiefs treated me well, and I had a good three years with them, even though I didn’t win any competition or play as much as I would have wanted to. But there’s no bad blood between me and Chiefs.”
Dolly also claimed it put unnecessary pressure on him as people expected performances from him worthy of his rumoured monthly salary.
“Your teammates at training, you need to showcase that you are a R1.4 million player every day. So, you need to handle yourself and carry yourself in a certain way, and the only thing that I felt bad about was that no one actually rectified the rumours.”
Despite the weight of expectations and the scrutiny that followed him, Dolly insists he has made peace with how things unfolded at Chiefs. Now, as he looks to rebuild in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, he hopes to let his football – rather than old rumours – define the final chapter of his career.
