CSA Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki has expressed his pride the Proteas Women’s team performance at the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup.

The Proteas could not get over the final hurdle, losing to hosts India by 52 runs in a pulsating final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.

But Moseki was still thrilled with the team’s achievement in becoming the first senior South African team – male or female – to reach an ICC World Cup final.

“Congratulations to Coach Mandla Mashimbyi, captain Laura Wolvaardt, and the entire squad for representing South Africa with such pride,” Moseki, who witnessed the historic final at the Dr Patil Stadium, said.

“Reaching the World Cup final is a significant milestone, and the team’s consistency throughout the tournament is a testament to their hard work and unity.

“We are extremely proud of how this group has carried themselves, on and off the field, and the many unforgettable moments they have given our fans. This journey is only the beginning.”

The road to the final saw the team rewriting several records in the cricketing books. Notably, their semi-final match against England was a watershed moment, where they posted a staggering total of 319/7 — their highest-ever score in a Women’s World Cup match. This commanding victory was a testament to their strategic prowess and excellent teamwork.

Individual brilliance was also on full display, with Laura Wolvaardt shining brightly throughout the tournament. She amassed 571 runs, becoming the leading run-scorer of the tournament and earning accolades for her prolific performance. Her crowning moment came when she scored an extraordinary 169 runs in the semi-final, setting a record for the highest individual score by a captain in a World Cup knockout match.

Another star of the tournament was seasoned all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, who made history herself by becoming the leading wicket-taker in ICC Women’s World Cup history, claiming 44 wickets throughout her illustrious career.
