Halloween, celebrated every year on October 31st, has grown from its traditional roots of costumes and “trick-or-treating” into a full-blown day of spooky fun, creativity, and entertainment. Today, people of all ages dress up in scary, funny, or imaginative outfits to attend parties or hit the streets for treats. This year, some of Mzansi’s celebrities embraced the holiday in style, showing off their creative Halloween looks.
First up is Uncle Waffles, the 25-year-old DJ and record producer. She decided to channel her inner Beyoncé and wore the iconic Banana Skirt outfit. Beyoncé first wore this look as a tribute to Josephine Baker during the 2006 Fashion Rocks concert. The costume featured a jewelled bra and a satin skirt made of banana-shaped pieces, and Uncle Waffles paid homage to Baker’s iconic style while bringing her own flair to the ensemble.
Award-winning actress Zola Nombona also joined in the Halloween fun, transforming into The Joker. She sported the character’s signature green hair and purple suit, nailing the chaotic and playful vibe of the infamous villain.
South African rapper and reality TV star Nadia Nakai took inspiration from the iconic movie Sinners. She dressed as Stack, one of the twin brothers from the film. In Sinners, Elijah “Smoke” Moore and Elias “Stack” Moore, both played by Michael B. Jordan, return to their Mississippi hometown hoping for a fresh start, only to face unexpected challenges. Nadia’s choice showed her love for film and her creativity in bringing the character to life.
Lastly, award-winning content creator and influencer Mihlali Ndamase embraced a royal Halloween look, dressing up as the Queen of Hearts. She wore a black and red dress with lace details, stockings, red heels, and a crown, perfectly embodying the commanding and iconic villainess.
From music to movies and classic storybook characters, Mzansi’s celebrities showed that Halloween is the perfect time to get creative and have fun. Their outfits not only entertained fans but also highlighted their love for pop culture, storytelling, and bold fashion statements.
