National Coloured Congress MP Fadiel Adams has filed a criminal complaint against National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola this Friday, accusing him of nepotism. Adams has also lodged perjury charges against KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Adams described Mkhwanazi as a ‘politicised’ officer. “The bravest general in the country, when his province was burning, he went on leave. During the KZN riots, the man disappeared,” he claimed.
The politician went on to say that when the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the nation needed his courage most, he failed to show it.
“When Mkhwanazi says in his portfolio, that my issue against his friend Khumalo is an HR issue. Understand that he makes this allegation as if he has seen the docket. Remember dockets are classified. By his own admission, he doesn’t have security clearance.”
Adams went on to say that KZN is the worst performing province out of nine.
In response, Mkhwanazi said the issue will be dealt with at the Ad Hoc Committee. “Anyone has got the right to open a case. Police must investigate and if there was a crime committed, and the matter taken to the courts.
“I’ve never been afraid of being prosecuted. I’m not afraid now. So, if Mr Adams, whom I spoke about in that Commission, feels that he must use the strategy to threaten or intimidate me, it’s okay, I’m not afraid it…He must bring it on,” Mkhwanazi said.
He said the information he has presented, he saw in documents, from the police. “So, representing the women and men in blue; if there was any omission on error made, that was not intentional.”
