YoungstaCPT launches a limited-edition Oh-Two-1 sneaker celebrating his roots

In a collaboration set to shake up the sneaker world, rapper YoungstaCPT has teamed up with Reebok to design a brand-new, limited-edition sneaker, Oh-Two-1.

This collaboration is part of Reebok South Africa’s Pure Mzansi Gold series, which showcases the talents of South Africa’s most talented artists and athletes.

YoungstaCPT is now the third local artist to release a signature sneaker with Reebok, following in the footsteps of the late Kiernan “AKA” Forbes.

With only 500 pairs of the Oh-Two-1’s available, each pair is specially signed, numbered and comes with a custom sleeve and a sticker sheet inspired by YoungstaCPT’s classic mixtapes. 

Named after the Cape Town area code 021, the sneaker aims to celebrate YoungstaCPT’s roots and journey. 

Designed by the artist himself, the Oh-Two-1 features striking illustrations from fellow Capetonian Ross Solomon.

YoungstaCPT has filled the sneaker with personal history; each detail holds a meaning. From spray cans and Metrorail trains to beloved Gatsby sandwiches, the design reflects the essence of the Cape Flats and pays homage to the hustle that defines YoungstaCPT’s life.

The sneaker uses the classic Reebok Pump OmniZone silhouette, an icon from the ’90s that has been given a fresh twist filled with attitude.

The sole draws inspiration from the lively streets of Cape Town, with shades that mimic the stunning sunrises and sunsets over the majestic Table Mountain. 

“Truth be told, Reebok has always been that iconic sneaker every kid in the hood wanted. I’ve been wearing Reebok since I was knee-high. Even before the music, this brand was for my city, for my people – a brand for everyone who built something out of nothing,” said YoungstaCPT.

He added: “The collab, for me, is about building a legacy for my people, claiming our stake and living to our true potential. And nobody ever said it was going to be easy. This is what perseverance looks like, those ten thousand hours we put in.”

To celebrate the launch, Reebok will also be releasing a two-part mini documentary that dives into the creative process behind the Oh-Two-1, told mixtape-style.

Fans can look forward to raw stories and the inspiration behind the sneaker, showcasing the people who helped make this dream a reality.

The release will also feature exclusive behind-the-scenes content and fun activities.

The Oh-Two-1 sneaker officially drops on Friday, October 31, at the Reebok Canal Walk and select retailers.
