Experience Luxury at Lefika Villas in Sun City

Tucked into the stunning landscapes of Sun City, Lefika Villas delights with its sleek modern design, marrying cultural heritage with creature comforts that appeal to all one’s senses.

“Lefika,” meaning “stone” in Setswana, pays tribute to the rich history and rocky beauty of the surrounding Pilanesberg area.

My family and I took a three-hour road trip to reach this stunning destination that is nestled in the North West province.

I was looking forward to this luxury self-catering accommodation as a real treat away from the bustle of Johannesburg, with all its stresses, and Lefika Villas did not disappoint.

The sprawling Sun City complex borders the Pilanesberg National Park.

On arrival the reception was welcoming. For the entire trip the level of service was exceptional with staff being friendly and helpful.

At Lefika Villas, each villa has been carefully positioned among natural rock formations and trees, offering privacy and incredible views, which are spectacular. Nestled in the hilly surrounds is the Lost City and views of the Palace, which adds a magic touch and a feeling of adventure.

The development includes spacious three- and four-bedroom villas.

The interiors of Lefika Villas are tastefully appointed, bringing a strong sense of nature indoors.

Inside, you’ll find a warm blend of natural materials – think stone finishes, dark wood accents, and handcrafted details. Local artworks and soft, earthy tones and beaded light fittings give the spaces a distinct South African feel. There was an excitement in being in this open-planned opulence.

But what makes it special is the little touches of luxury. From a signature wall with aloe wallpaper, to a wood-burning fireplace, to the outside wine fridge – it is the attention to detail that really makes a difference.

And not to be overlooked was a bathroom with a bath so big, who needs a pool?

The villa we stayed in provided a fully equipped kitchen and top of the range appliances. It had mod cons such as Wi-Fi and a flat screen TV for the whole family to unwind to and get quality downtime.

Lefika Villas outdoor space was made for making memories. One would not be South African without enjoying a good braai with family and friends.

While adults get well-deserved time to relax, the kids are well entertained.

The stylish kitchen and dining rooms leads seamlessly onto a sunlight patio with built-in braai, perfectly suited to relaxing afternoons.

My children are teenagers and enjoyed access to the Valley of Waves, a thrilling water park featuring a massive wave pool, water slides, and beach-style fun. Just a reminder, suntan lotion is a must. They also got to play games at The Magic Company with laser tag and ten pin bowling. There is just so much for them to do. One is spoiled for choice. Segway tours are also on offer for the more daring.

Although Lefika Villas is fully self-catering, we decided  to indulge in breakfast at the iconic Lost City Palace – and it was absolutely marvellous, although I ended up eating way too much food.

From the moment we entered the opulent lobby of the Palace with its vast ceilings and ornate pillars, we knew we were in for a treat.

The breakfast buffet filled a large area of the room with tons of food to choose from.

Freshly baked pastries, a wide selection of hot dishes, cold cuts and fresh fruit was available, and everything was of exceptional quality. Of note, I was blown away by the selection of sushi, oysters and salmon on display, while my kids were excited to see a fresh waffle food station with bowls of sweets and Nutella spread on offer.

The staff were very attentive without being intrusive and really made one feel looked after and special.

The terrace has views of the lush gardens and water features. Quite majestic. It felt like we were in another world where anything was possible. Looking for something a little more adventurous, we went on a Segway tour.

A Segway is a self-balancing electric scooter that you steer by leaning in the direction you want to go. This turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip although it rattled me out of my comfort zone. After a quick but thorough safety briefing and practice session, we set off with our guide on a  scenic route around the golf course both on road and off road. We glided effortlessly through the lush landscapes on the Segway, which was fun.

I have to warn you the off road experience is not for the faint hearted with a bumpy dirt road to contend with. Although we navigated a few tricky turns it just added to the adventure. However, the on road experience was easy.

The bathrooms offer a peaceful sanctuary to rejuvenate after a long day, or start afresh in the morning.

Our guide was very caring and looked after us very well. It was a lovely way to see a bit more of the resort without having to walk and I would recommend that other people try this experience.

No trip to Sun City is complete without a day at the Valley of Waves, and it certainly lived up to its reputation.

One felt excited the moment one crossed the bridge to the Valley of Waves.

The man-made beach and wave pool were fantastic, offering the fun of the ocean without the hassle.

Lefika Villas offers everything you need for a relaxing self-catering stay.

This was very much a central point and I even ventured in despite my adult fear of cold water. I later on chilled under a tree reading. My kids were more active and enjoyed the Lazy River floating on tubes and then got to enjoy a burst of adrenaline on the water slides.

Food  and drinks were readily available, with plenty of options to suit all tastes. I indulged in an ice cream, while my kids enjoyed Chip and Dip.

It was the perfect way to wind down after a morning of adventure. Then it was back to Lefika Villas to enjoy a braai after a very full day. Watching the sun set over a chilled glass of wine after a day of fun and laughter. There is nothing like being in Africa, with family, on a beautiful getaway to put life in perspective. Life is to be enjoyed.

Our time at Sun City was nothing short of unforgettable.

Lots of natural light floods the bedrooms of Lefika Villas.
