A 35-year-old man has been arrested in Nebo, under the Sekhukhune District in Limpopo, for the rape and brutal murder of a 63-year-old woman from Ga-Marishane village.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the incident occurred at around 4pm on Sunday, 20 October 2025, when the woman’s body was discovered at her homestead.
“It is alleged that the suspect was seen leaving the residence of the deceased earlier that morning, before her lifeless body was later discovered by community members,” said Ledwaba.
Community members spotted the suspect entering his home in the early hours of Thursday, 23 October, at approximately 2am and alerted the police.
“They kept watch until police arrived and effected the arrest,” Ledwaba said.
A post-mortem examination later revealed the woman had been raped, resulting in an additional charge being added to the initial murder charge.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 24 October 2025, on charges of rape and murder.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident and praised the community for their cooperation and restraint in assisting with the arrest.
