How a single walk on Avril Lavigne' s runway ignited Kylie Jenner' s journey to ' King Kylie' fame

Forget what you thought about teen Kylie Jenner. Before the billion-dollar empire, before Kylie Cosmetics, before the world even knew her hair could be a statement, she was already the definition of unapologetic energy.

During a recent “Vogue Life in Looks” session, the 28-year-old mogul flipped through her fashion history and stopped at the moment that made her fall in love with bold hair and fearless style.

“My first runway show. It was for Avril Lavigne’s clothing line at the time,” Jenner recalled, taking us straight back to 2011.

“This feels like a lifetime ago, but I love [it] to this day. I remember I wasn’t nervous at all, I was so confident.”

Teen Jenner hit the runway like she owned it: black mini dress with a lace top flaring into tulle, smoky eyeliner, short black nails, hands on hips basically, the blueprint for King Kylie.

“They put, like, chalk in my hair or something, and I was obsessed,” she said. Translation: she was already experimenting, already fearless, already giving us the colourful, larger-than-life vibes that would define her signature era.

Her personality was just as extra as her fashion. Case in point: when Kim Kardashian asked her to tone down her blue hair for her wedding to Kanye West, Jenner’s answer was a hard, unapologetic “nah”.

And yes, she rocked up as a bridesmaid with electric blue locks, anyway, the same bold energy we’ve loved since day one.

Funny enough, a lot of us genuinely thought she would be the model of the family, not sister Kendall.

She had the charisma, the attitude, the camera-ready personality – long legs alone don’t make a supermodel (Kendall, we see you…).

Jenner was born to stand out, and it showed even back then, rocker hand signs and tongue out, with her family cheering from the sidelines. “And then my family’s, like, cheering for me. This is like the beginning of King Kylie,” she said.

Fast forward to the 10-year anniversary of Kylie Cosmetics, and Jenner has levelled up to West Hollywood glitz.

Cropped “KING” tank, low-waist leather pants, bold makeup, and hair that could stop traffic.

“I changed my hair colour like once a week and cut my hair off and then put a wig on or put extensions in. It’s just a part of who I am…” she told “Harper’s Bazaar”.

And, of course, she celebrated with her famous crew  because King Kylie does not do anything quietly.

What also stood out in the interview was how deliberate she is with her fashion. The way she dates the collections, keeping track of when she wore each piece and the fact that she still owns most of the outfits, shows that she doesn’t just wear clothes; she respects them.

You can tell she genuinely cares about the fashion she’s putting on her body. It’s not just about looking good in the moment; it’s about creating moments, preserving memories, and owning her style choices in a way that’s thoughtful, intentional, and totes (totally) “Kylie”.
