A quick-thinking private security officer from Zone Security Response has been praised for his bravery after single-handedly apprehending a hijacking suspect in Plumstead .
Last week, an alert was received on the PNW alerts group reporting a violent hijacking at Plumstead Train Station just after 5am, during which the victim was stabbed. Officer Reagan Adams immediately sprang into action.
Zone Security, via Facebook, shared how the hijacked vehicle was later discovered damaged and abandoned in Castle Town Road, with the suspects fleeing on foot.
Updates soon revealed the men were moving through the Park Road subway towards Main Road, prompting Adams to give chase.
Despite the suspect brandishing a firearm, Adams acted swiftly, apprehending one suspect on his own. A second security service provider (SSP) joined the pursuit and successfully captured the second suspect on Main Road, Wynberg.
All stolen belongings were recovered and both suspects were handed over to Wynberg SAPS for further investigation.
The hijacking victim was treated on scene by Atlantic Medical and sustained only minor injuries.
Zone Security Response and local neighbourhood watch groups have commended both officers for their exceptional bravery and rapid response, which ensured justice was swiftly served.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that a carjacking case was opened for investigation: “Two suspects were arrested and appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
“This case was transferred to Cape Town Central Vehicle Crime Investigations Unit (VCIU) for further investigation.”
Hijackings in the Cape Town metro continue to pose a significant challenge, with the South African Police Service reporting that the Western Cape accounted for about 14.1% of all carjacking incidents in the country during the 2023/24 period.
Although the national trend shows a 15.1% drop in car jackings in the first quarter of 2025, the Western Cape still recorded a 17.1% increase in one quarter from April to June 2024, signalling that local challenges remain severe.
