The list of the world’s best hotels just got bigger!
The World’s 50 Best Hotels recently announced its first-ever extended list, now including hotels ranked from 51 to 100.
This means more hotels than ever have been recognised for their excellence. The list now celebrates 24 different territories and 40 cities around the globe.
Emma Sleight, head of content for The World’s 50 Best Hotels, said: “As we enter our third year, we are delighted to honour even more of the world’s most outstanding hotels with the extended 51-100 list.
“From this year and beyond, we will be able to showcase an even larger pool of hotels and territories.”
Among the highlights of the new list is Cape Town’s Mount Nelson, affectionately called “The Nellie” or “Pink Lady”, which secured the 73rd spot.
The Nellie has a rich history, having opened its doors in 1899 as a welcoming space for first-class passengers travelling on the transatlantic Union Castle Line.
Throughout the years, it has hosted important people like Winston Churchill, Lord Kitchener and the British Prince of Wales in 1925.
The hotel got its iconic rosy colour in 1918, when its manager celebrated the end of the Great War.
Guests visiting The Nellie can enjoy an experience that goes beyond its historical charm. According to The World’s 50 Best Hotels website: “If you do one thing here, make it the afternoon tea – famously described as the best in Africa – or perhaps a classic cocktail at Planet Bar, which is fast gaining a reputation as one of the best drinkeries in the city.”
Meanwhile, Europe leads the way with 17 hotels on the list.
Italy shines brightly with nine properties, including Hotel Cipriani at 72, Casa Maria Luigia at 82, and Portrait Milano at 99.
Sweden’s Ett Hem, which stands at 89 and Türkiye’s Maçakızı at 96, were also celebrated as their countries’ first-ranked hotels since the awards began in 2023.
Aman Nai Lert in Bangkok is at 51, and Hong Kong and Kyoto each made their mark with two hotels each, featuring The Peninsula Hong Kong (54) and Aman Kyoto (74).
In India, three hotels were recognised, including The Johri (93) and Amanbagh (100).
In North America, New York stood out with four hotels, including The Fifth Avenue Hotel at 75 and The Greenwich Hotel at 77.
Other hotels from the continent include The Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles at 65 and San Ysidro Ranch at 68.
Mexico adds to the growing list with three hotels, featuring Four Seasons Tamarindo at 55 and Montage Los Cabos at 67.
