Nosekeni Rabia Mandela, the wife of activist Mandla Mandela, has expressed overwhelming relief and gratitude following confirmation that her husband and other South Africans who were abducted and detained in Israel will soon be released.

“I am grateful beyond words for the relentless dedication of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) legal team, Adalah, the local GSF support crew, and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco),” she said. “Their tireless efforts secured the release of the South African delegation.”

The group, which had been detained after participating in the GSF, an initiative aimed at delivering aid to Gaza, has reportedly been cleared for release following diplomatic engagement between South African and Israeli authorities.

“Hearing that my husband is finally coming home fills my heart with pure joy, tears of relief, love, and gratitude. I can’t wait to hold you again, my love; see you soon.”

Dirco confirmed the news on Monday. “We have received confirmation that the individuals in question are scheduled to be released from detention and will be repatriated, departing via Jordan tomorrow morning,” said spokesperson, Chrispin Phiri.

Dirco minister, Ronald Lamola, extended his gratitude to all involved.

“We extend our gratitude to all relevant parties, both domestically and internationally, for their cooperation and coordination in ensuring the return of the South African citizens,” he said.

The government reiterated its commitment to the safety and well-being of its nationals abroad.
