ANC secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, said the suspended Police Minister and party NEC member, Senzo Mchunu, will appear before the party’s Integrity Commission following testimonies from the Madlanga Commission.
But Mbalula told journalists in a media briefing on Thursday that he would not divulge details about Mchunu’s appearance.
“The integrity commission is seized with the matter. I will not give details because we don’t want that. Most of the time, as members go to the commission, we don’t divulge details; we deal with reports,” he said.
Failure to attend, Mbalula said, they will be summoned.
Mchunu is implicated in allegations of political interference in the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Mbalula acknowledged that during testimonies or submissions, the names of individuals may be mentioned.
He emphasised that anyone implicated will be afforded the right of reply and a fair opportunity to clear their names, in accordance with constitutional principles of justice and fairness.
However, Mbalula made it clear that the ANC will not tolerate — nor align itself with — individuals or groups seeking to tarnish the party’s reputation.
“ANC can’t pride itself on such people if they are its members and they will face the full wrath of the ANC and accountability from the side of the party,” he said.
The ANC has long grappled with allegations of corruption, including accusations of vote-buying and patronage.
