Remote working and semigration have led to opportunities for people to uproot themselves and find somewhere else to live and work.

The trend has seen a sharp rise in mobility among younger people who are spreading their wings and settling in new and exciting cities that are the most affordable to live in.

Cape Town ticks all the boxes for foreigners seeking an affordable place to live.

According to a list compiled by Seasia Stats, these 15 top cities have their own unique appeal, whether cultural or historical, or simply because of their exquisite beauty, where you can “live your best life”.

The list covers a wide geographical spread, which highlights that there are places across the globe where an affordable and fulfilling lifestyle can become yours.

Of course, the affordability of these places depends largely on the currency that you are paid in, and how much you would get in rent for your house back home. If you’re paid in euros, dollars or pounds, Cape Town is a definite option.

At the top of the list is Bari in Italy, renowned for its old-world charm and relaxed coastal living.

It is followed by our very own Cape Town, a long-time favourite for its scenic beauty and melting pot culture.

Cebu in the Philippines takes the third slot, scoring off its beautiful beaches and warm climate.

Europe features well on this list, with Istanbul in Turkey, Split in Croatia, Valencia in Spain, and Heraklion in Greece among the cities where affordable living is possible.

Southeast Asia also offers up top candidates, with Hanoi in Vietnam, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and Bangkok in Thailand listed as budget-friendly options.

Valencia in Spain is a popular destination for those seeking elsewhere to live and work.

Latin America features on the list, with Mexico seeing a wave of digital nomads heading to its shores in Mexico City and Oaxaca City, while Medellin in Colombia also holds allure.

Mumbai in India makes the cut, as does Hamilton in New Zealand.
