If your skin is super dry, tight and as flaky as a fresh croissant, then you know that winter is here in full force.
Between icy winds outside and blasting heaters indoors, your skin’s moisture barrier is taking a beating.
Bianca Leonard, marketing manager at lifestyle tech brand Solenco, says your skincare routine should work as hard as your winter wardrobe.
“Just like you wouldn’t step out without a jersey or coat, your skin needs the same kind of layered protection,” she explains.
Here’s her go-to layering method to keep your skin soft, smooth, and glowing through these chilly months.
Step 1: Be gentle
If your face feels tight or squeaky after cleansing, your face wash is most likely too harsh.
In winter, ditch the foaming formulas and switch to something creamy and hydrating.
You want your cleanser to leave your skin feeling clean and calm, not stripped and stiff.
Step 2: Tone without the sting
Modern toners are more about hydration than harshness.
Look for formulas with ingredients like rose water or glycerin to give your skin an instant boost of moisture and prep it for the next steps.
Step 3: Essential serum
A good serum is key in cold weather.
Hyaluronic acid helps draw moisture into the skin, while squalane locks it in.
For best results, apply your serum to slightly damp skin, right after toning, to maximise absorption.
Step 4: Rich moisture
Lightweight lotions won’t cut it in winter. Your skin needs something rich, nourishing, and buttery in texture.
Look for moisturisers packed with ceramides, shea butter or panthenol to deeply hydrate and soothe.
If your skin still feels dry, then add a few drops of facial oil on top to lock everything in.
Step 5: Never forget sunscreen
It might be cold and no sunshine in sight, but best you believe that UV rays are around all year long, so don’t skip the SPF.
