TV personality and former PSL club owner Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize has denied any links with Gauteng businessman Vusimusi ‘Cat’ Matlala and demanded an apology and a retraction from Police Ministry portfolio committee chairperson Ian Cameron.

During the committee debate on damning claims by KwaZulu-Natal provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi who alleged that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu abused his ministerial powers to shield Matlala from prosecution, Cameron told the committee that the firearms that were discovered by police during the raid at Mkhize’s house belonged to Matlala’s security company. He added that the firearms were returned to the company.

The businessman who is currently in custody for an attempted murder of an actor believed to be his former girlfriend is at the centre of the raging public war between Mchunu and Lieutenant- General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

In a letter of demand from Mkhize’s attorneys, she demanded that Cameron withdraw his utterances and apologise within 48 hours and also send the same to X and various media houses where Cameron’s utterances were extensively reported.

“We are instructed to refer you to the video clip circulating on the 07th of July 2025 on X under handle Newzroom Africa (@Newzroom405) which you were addressing the committee as well as the country which we will attach the link and or screen-shot herein for your ease reference. The clip was circulated widely on social network where you vehemently made false, defamatory, and malicious allegations which lacked facts, authenticity and verification. During the interview and or address, you made the following allegations:

“You will remember that few months ago SARS conducted a raid at Ms Mkhize’s home, the owner of a well known soccer club. During that raid, firearms were seized, all of those firearms are registered to a security company belonging to none other than Mr CAT Motlala,” read the letter.

The letter further read: “The statements were made with reckless disregard for their truthfulness and authenticity. It is common cause to say that as a leader and public.”

“[As a] Representative and member of parliament, you are duty-bound to ensure that your public statements are accurate and do not unjustly harm others. Your failure to verify the veracity of the claims you mentioned constitutes a gross deliberate or negligent violation of our client’s rights under South African Law, including the common law of defamation and her constitutional rights to dignity and reputation under section 10 and 16 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. Our client is a respected businesswoman who strives to live an honest life and you drew her to malicious unfounded, gruesome events she has no knowledge of.”

Mkhize’s attorney Mpho Nefuri refused to be drawn to whom the firearms belonged, saying it is Cameron that must answer that question. She said she has no instruction to reveal to whom the firearms belong except that her client denies that they belong to Matlala. Nefuri said her client does not know Matlala and has no relationship with him whatsoever. Mkhize has had a bruising battle with SARS over tax issues. The raid by SARS and police resulted in the forfeiture of several cars as well her club Royal AM which was eventually auctioned.

Cameron had not responded to the question sent to him, however, he has reportedly apologised, saying he meant Vusi Xaba.
