Orlando Pirates continue to flex their muscles in the transfer market after securing the heavyweight signing of Oswin Appollis.
The midfielder joins the Buccaneers from Polokwane City following constant speculation over several seasons linking him to the Soweto-based outfit.
The 23-year-old joins an already impressive list of new arrivals at Pirates, which includes former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sipho Mbule, Chippa United’s Sinoxolo Kwayiba, and AmaZulu winger Tshepang Moremi.
Pirates have been the busiest team during the off-season, and after finishing second to Sundowns last season — with a 13-point gap — the lack of squad depth was widely seen as the key factor that separated them from the champions.
Now, with their aggressive movement in the transfer window, the Buccaneers have significantly bolstered their depth while also planning for the future. Appollis becomes the latest young talent to join the club, reflecting a shift towards building a squad that can compete next season and for years to come.

Highly rated for his versatility in midfield amongst all his other qualities, Appollis is considered one of the most exciting young talents in the country. He is expected to form a dynamic link with the likes of Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota, who are currently the most gifted midfielders in the Pirates squad.
The Sea Robbers were swift in securing Appollis’ signature, with both Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns having previously been linked to the Bafana Bafana international.
Meanwhile, Stellenbosch FC have also showed their intent to remain among the league’s top performers by bringing in former Hungry Lions forward Muzomuhle Khanyi.
The 26-year-old joins the Maroons after a standout season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, where he finished the 2024-25 campaign as the division’s top goal-scorer with 18 goals.
“It’s an honour to join a club with the winning mentality of Stellenbosch FC,” Khanyi said after the move was confirmed. “This is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my career, and I already feel at home.
“I’m here to learn – I know it’s going to be difficult because I’m new at the club and stepping up from the NFD – but I hope I can continue with the form I showed last season.”
