South African Hockey confirmed the appointment of Calvin Price as head coach of women’s national indoor hockey team, after he had led Namibia to a surprise top-six finish at the 2025 FIH Indoor World Cup in Croatia.

The vastly experienced Justin Rosenberg, who led the men’s indoor hockey team to a historic bronze medal at the World Cup, will continue the legacy he has already built with the national team.

The appointments will cover the period until the conclusion of the 2029 World Cup.

Price is no stranger to the domestic and international hockey scene, having served previously as an assistant with the SA women’s indoor team.

Domestically, he boasts an exceptional coaching record with five SA Indoor IPT titles and one runner-up finish.

Mustaphaa Cassiem, Dalpiarro Langford and Dayaan Cassiem were a key part of the SA team that made history at the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup Croatia 2025, coached by Justin Rosenberg.

But it was his performance in Croatia that surely confirmed him as the right man to succeed AJ Spieringshoek. The SA women’s team finished in a disappointing ninth place at the showpiece.

“What an honour and privilege to be appointed. This has been a dream of mine for many years, and I genuinely look forward to the challenge. I hope to help the team reach new heights on the international stage,” Price said.

Tarryn de Winnaar will be the team’s assistant coach and Bryce West the performance analyst.

Rosenberg has overseen 45 Test matches as head coach, leading the team to two Nkosi Cup titles, two Indoor World Cup appearances, and the highest finish by an African team in any senior hockey World Cup.

“Being reappointed is an immense honour. After what we achieved in Croatia, I’m excited to continue pushing the boundaries of excellence and help define the future of this team. I cannot wait to lead the team again,” said Rosenberg.

He will be supported by Cameron Mackay as assistant coach and Jody Erasmus as performance analyst.
