The South African entertainment has lost one of its most beloved actors, Meme Ditshego, who died on Wednesday, June 25, at the age of 60.
Her passing was confirmed by her talent agency, Eye Media Artists. The cause of death has still not been revealed.
Ditshego is renowned for her iconic roles in popular local TV shows, including SABC 2’s “Ga Re Dumele”, where she played the iconic role of Josephine Ratau.
She has starred in “The Coconuts”, “Muvhango” “7de Laan” and most recently, “Cobrizi.”
In a heartfelt statement, her agency described her as a “pioneer of performance” and a “true veteran of our screen and stage.”
“It is with deep sorrow and reverence that we announce the passing of Meme Ditshego — a beloved South African actress, legendary comedic talent, and a true veteran of our screen and stage,” the statement read.
“She was a pioneer of performance – a woman whose vibrant spirit, sharp wit, and undeniable presence brought life to every role she played. Her unforgettable work has headlined major productions across SABC, eTV, Netflix and MultiChoice, touching the hearts of South Africans and global audiences alike.”
Meanwhile, the “Actor Spaces” blog also shared a heartfelt message, saying Ditshego’s passing carried their stories gently.
“She made us laugh thoughtfully and reminded us that performance is a form of love. Thank you Mme, for giving so generously, for showing us what it truly means to honour the craft. Rest In Power, Mme Meme Ditshego,” their post read.
