Free State Grade 11 learner, Kamogelo Baukudi, who was kidnapped by two men more than 20 days ago, has been rescued by the police on Friday morning.

Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said five suspects have been arrested during the early morning operation where police rescued the 19-year-old boy.

“We can confirm that we embarked on an operation this morning in an area where our intelligence-driven information took us. That is where we managed to arrest five suspects. Three of these suspects were found on the road in one of the townships, with the victim himself,” said Makhele.

“Two other suspects were found at a house in the same township. At the present moment, they are being processed at the Wepener police station. We can confirm that Kamogelo is safe with a parent.”

Makhele added that police did not observe any visible injuries on the teenager during the rescue.

“He will still undergo medical treatment just to make sure that he is fine,” he said.

Earlier this month, reported that the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court postponed the bail application of a police officer, 42-year-old Philemon Adoon, who was arrested for allegedly kidnapping Kamogelo.

On Friday morning, Makhele said police are interrogating the arrested suspects, and that process would reveal if there are any links with Adoon.

Kamogelo was on his way home from a Bloemfontein school for children with special needs when two men posing as police officers took him.

Previously, Free State Education MEC, Manthlake Julia Maboya, made repeated appeals to community members to assist police in finding Kamogelo, and bringing him back home safely.

“We’re also concerned and we would like to make an appeal to the members of the public to assist us, to assist the police, to assist the family, so that we bring back this boy to the family and back to the school,” said Maboya.
