Basadi in Music Awards Returns with Two-Night Celebration Honouring Women in Music

The Basadi in Music Awards is back for its fourth year, and it promises to be bigger, bolder, and more meaningful than ever. This year, the prestigious event will take place over two nights—on 1 and 2 August 2025—at the iconic Joburg Theatre. The theme for the 2025 awards is “The Symphony of Harmony,” which pays tribute to the power, diversity, and unity of women in the South African music industry.

Known for celebrating female excellence across all aspects of music—from singers and DJs to producers, stylists, managers, and radio personalities—the Basadi in Music Awards continues to shine a bright spotlight on the women shaping the sound and soul of the nation.

For the first time, the event will span two nights. The first evening, 1 August, will feature The Vanguard Awards, an invite-only ceremony honouring the often-unsung heroes behind the scenes. These include artist managers, music publicists, radio producers, and other key industry figures who make it possible for artists to thrive. This exclusive gathering is all about recognising those who work tirelessly behind the curtains to shape South Africa’s musical landscape.

The second night, 2 August, is the Main Music Awards, open to the public and set to be a night full of music, glamour, and unforgettable moments. This is where the stars take the stage—women who have made waves in the music scene through talent, style, innovation, and influence. The night promises dazzling performances and celebrations of the women pushing boundaries and redefining success in the music industry.

The theme “The Symphony of Harmony” reflects unity without uniformity. It celebrates every woman in the industry—whether she’s a vocalist, producer, DJ, stylist, journalist, or behind-the-scenes executive. The organisers will interpret this theme through the four natural elements—Air, Earth, Fire, and Water—which symbolise different strengths women bring to the music space. Air represents creativity and freedom; Earth stands for growth and legacy; Fire brings passion and energy; and Water reflects intuition and emotional depth.

The nomination list for 2025 is filled with stars. Lerato Kganyago and Lamiez Holworthy are both nominated for DJ of the Year, while Makhadzi is up for Dance Artist of the Year for her hit Number 1. Zee Nxumalo has received three nominations—Song of the Year, Sofnfree Artist of the Year, and Music Video of the Year—all for her song Ngisakuthanda.

Other Song of the Year nominees include Bassie (Kwelanga 2.0), Lwah Ndlunkulu (Mnakwethu), and Nontokozo Mkhize (Esandleni). In the Songwriter of the Year category, Liema Pantsi is nominated for Let Me Be, and Zoe Modiga for Uyakhazimula.

In the world of radio, Loot Love and Relebogile Mabotja are competing for Entertainment Radio Presenter of the Year for their shows on Metro FM and 702, respectively. Style will also be recognised with Moozlie, Kamo Mphela, and Anele Zondo nominated for Best Styled Artist of the Year.

There are many more incredible women across categories such as podcasting, production, and radio who have been nominated. Fans are encouraged to visit the Basadi in Music Awards’ social media platforms to view the full list and vote for their favourites before the deadline on 19 July 2025.
