Andre Naude, a key figure in Cape Town’s underworld, was gunned down on Thursday afternoon in Parow.
Naude was shot along Voortrekker Road shortly after 3pm. He was declared dead at the scene.
Police remained on the scene on Thursday evening but had not confirmed any details about the shooting at the time of publication.
It is not yet clear whether Naude was accompanied by bodyguards.
Details surrounding the murder were still sketchy at the time of publishing.
Naude’s killing comes seven months after his associate, alleged underworld kingpin Mark Lifman, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Garden Route Mall in George in November.
At the time of his death, Lifman was out on bail. He had been expected to appear in the Western Cape High Court, alongside Naude and several others — including alleged Sexy Boys gang leader Jerome ‘Donkie’ Booysen — in connection with the 2017 murder of Brian Wainstein. Wainstein, dubbed the “steroid king”, was an international steroid smuggler who was also wanted in the United States.
The murder trial remains ongoing.
This is a developing story.
