Is Sipho Mbule heading to Kaizer Chiefs? His agent sets the record straight

Sipho Mbule is currently a free agent after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns, and speculation has been rife that midfielder could be on his way to Naturena to sign for Kaizer Chiefs.

The 27-year-old parted ways with Sundowns following an unsuccessful loan spell at Sekhukhune United that was cut short due to disciplinary issues. According to reports, Mbule is alleged to have gone to training under the influence of alcohol.

However, despite his issues off the field, Mbule remains a popular player among football supporters, with those who back Kaizer Chiefs desperate to see him in the famous black and gold jersey.

Unfortunately, the players’ agent, Mike Makaab, has decided to be a party pooper and pour cold water on speculation linking him with the Soweto giants.

“I don’t know where the talks that Sipho Mbule is going to Kaizer Chiefs are coming from. All I can tell you is that the rumours are not true,” Makaab said, according to FARPost.

“As I said, there hasn’t been any formal approach from any team about the services of Mbule. So we’ll look at all the best possible options to get him a club.”

Mbule, capped four times at international level, began his career with SuperSport United, where he thrived in the heart of midfield. After an impressive four years with Matsatsatsa, he secured a big move to cross-town rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, after struggling for regular game time at the perennial Betway Premiership champions, Mbule moved on loan to Sekhukhune in September last year.

Former Sundowns captain Hlompo Kekana has cautioned clubs about signing the talented midfielder, who tends to struggle off the pitch.

“You have got to be very brave to sign Sipho now,” Kekana said on SABC Sport’s Soccer Zone.

“But with the talent alone, you are guaranteed that you are going to enjoy, you are going to win football matches because he is talented like that.

“Outside football, as the coach, he is going to need some help,” Kekana said.
