South African actress and human rights activist Nomzamo Mbatha had the honour of hosting a major event — the 25th anniversary celebration of the Gates Foundation, held at the African Union Headquarters in Ethiopia. The Gates Foundation, started by Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates, is one of the world’s largest private foundations and is known for its work in health, education, and poverty reduction.
Nomzamo shared special moments from the event on her social media, including a photo of herself standing next to Bill Gates. She captioned the image:
“Hosted the 25th year anniversary @gatesfoundation. Thank you for 25 years of impact. Funny how we met 20 years ago and here we meet again in a different light. One day I will tell you the story of this full circle moment, my friends.”
This personal memory made the occasion even more meaningful for her. Her followers loved the post and praised her for being part of such a powerful global event.
The Gates Foundation also made a bold announcement during the celebration. In a statement shared online, they revealed:
“Over the next 20 years, the Gates Foundation will commit around $200 billion to advancing health and prosperity — about twice what we’ve invested in our first 25 years. The world is at a crossroads. The challenges ahead are the most daunting we’ve seen in our lifetime. But so are the opportunities.
We’re placing our bet on human ingenuity — on the scientists, health workers, educators, and farmers whose tireless work has already delivered some of the most dramatic gains in human history. They haven’t given up. Neither will we.”
Bill Gates himself has made it clear that he plans to give away almost all his remaining wealth in the coming years. This means the foundation will double its spending, bringing hope to millions of people around the world.
Nomzamo’s presence at such a big global platform highlights not only her influence but also her dedication to real change. As always, she continues to inspire and represent South Africa on the world stage.
