“Never Have I Sweated So Much!” – Enhle Mbali Hilariously Recalls Her Latex Dress Struggle in Nigeria

Actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa recently gave her fans a good laugh after sharing a funny throwback story on Instagram. The Blood Legacy actress posted a memory that popped up on her Apple Photos and turned it into a hilarious #storytime moment.

Enhle recalled her first trip to Nigeria when she was nominated for an Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA). It was a big moment in her career — but she wasn’t quite ready for Nigeria’s tropical weather.

“So this just popped up on my Apple photos, and I immediately started laughing,” she wrote. “This is why. So I was nominated for an AMA in Nigeria. And obviously this would have been my first time travelling to Nigeria. Little did I know whilst designing this dress how tropical the weather is. (To my defence I did my DD but the experience was very different).”

She went on to describe the beautiful latex dress she wore, made by designer Essie Couture. While the dress was stunning, it turned into a personal sauna.

“Listen, the dress itself was a flame. But never have I sweated so much in my life under this latex,” she said. “If ever there was a water disparity, I could’ve been of assistance in alleviating the problem. I had the best jellof I’ve ever had in my life, but I left Nigeria five sizes smaller after sweating under this Essie Couture. THE FAN IS NOT FOR AESTHETICS.”

Along with the post, she shared pictures of herself looking beautiful in the dress, fan in hand, trying to cool off from the intense heat.

Fans and fellow celebrities flooded her comments with love and laughter. Actress Gabisile Tshabalala playfully commented, “Mara at least you were hot (no pun intended).” Another follower added, “The price of beauty, looked gorgeous though,” with laughing emojis.

Even though she was literally melting, Enhle Mbali’s look was a hit, and her sense of humour made it even better.

According to ,  her nomination at the AMAA was for her role in The Queenstown Kings, a South African film that received several nominations at the 20th edition of the awards. Directed by Jahmil X.T Qubeka, the film showcased the best of South African talent, with nominations for Zolisa Xaluva (Best Actor), Tessa Twala, Enhle Mbali (Best Supporting Actress), and Sandile Mahlangu (Best Supporting Actor).

The ceremony was held on November 2, 2024, at the Balmoral Centre in Ikeja, Nigeria, under the theme “Celebrating African Creativity.”
