South African rising star Zee Nxumalo is making major moves in the entertainment world. The “Inja Ye Game” hitmaker has just announced an exciting new deal with the world-famous kids’ channel, Nickelodeon. Zee revealed that she was chosen to create a new song for the iconic cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants — a dream gig for many artists.

Sharing the news on social media, Zee Nxumalo posted in her usual playful way, even misspelling the channel’s name in the process. “Just signed a deal with Nicholodean. They want me to do a song for SpongeBob. Must I make it in Zulu?” she asked her fans on X (formerly Twitter).

Her followers were quick to respond. Many sent congratulatory messages and praised her for the achievement. One user, @SpecsXL, wrote, “That’s amazing. Congratulations.” Another fan, @k_marylin78483, added, “Nickelodeon is a big deal. That’s big congratulations.”

However, not everyone was impressed with her spelling mistake. A user named @Melo_Malebo replied, “You purposely just got the name wrong? Sounds to me like you’re disrespecting the company that wanted to work with you. Good luck seeing the deal through.”

Zee Nxumalo didn’t let the criticism get to her. She replied with humour and honesty, saying, “Ey methu I’m on the road. There’s no need to cross-examine a tweet honestly ey… as long as they understand what I’m saying! Finish and klaar.”

In a video shared by Audiopium SA, Zee Nxumalo opened up about how surprised she was when Nickelodeon contacted her. “When I got the call honestly, I didn’t believe it and the pressure was getting worse because how the h*ll am I going to make a SpongeBob song?”

Zee Nxumalo explained that to make the song work, she had to focus on finding the right beat. “The most important thing was a good beat,” she said. And it looks like she nailed it — the song, titled U’Sponge, has already been released and even comes with its own dance moves.

Zee Nxumalo continues to rise as a multi-talented artist, and this deal with Nickelodeon is another big step in her growing career.
