Wearing a wedding dress to someone else’s wedding is widely considered inappropriate. However, some individuals believe this rule doesn’t apply to them.
A woman has gone viral on TikTok after she came to a wedding wearing a wedding dress. Crazy right?
A TikTok user @Esther_Collection shared the video showcasing this wedding guest wearing white mermaid bridal dress.
To add fuel to the fire, her dress was almost similar to the dress of the bride as they both have an off-the-shoulder design and similar hairstyles.

The video garnered attention with 700 000 views and 25 000 likes, and TikTok users flocked to the comment section expressing their disappointment at the wedding guest.
A TikTok user commented: “Y’all couldn’t chase her?? I would’ve understood if it was an evening dress that the bride was wearing, and she wore the same one, but this is legit a wedding gown.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “No one had red wine with them?”
While another TikTok user added: “Hayibo, even the hairstyle is kind of similar.”
The big question is: Why would you, as a wedding guest, feel/see the need to wear a wedding dress to someone else’s wedding? Considering that there are themes at almost every wedding.
Simply adhering to the theme and staying away from wearing anything that is white is simple. Especially if you do not want to outshine the bride on her special day.
Globally, there’s significant debate about whether wedding guests should wear wedding dresses.
The debate has led to articles being written about dress codes at weddings and what NOT to wear to, as a wedding guest.
According to an article by “Pearl Mansion”, here’s what you shouldn’t wear as a wedding guest:
- Do not wear white unless the invitation has specified otherwise. White is only reserved for the bride, and it is important to respect her special day by not wearing the same colour as her.
- Wearing anything casual, such as jeans, sneakers or even flip-flops, is not allowed as they are deemed inappropriate.
- Do not wear anything too flashy or revealing, such as extremely short skirts or tight dresses.
- Try to stay far away from overly bold patterns or colours, as that might distract the guests. Try to stick to the pastel colours and choose more subtle patterns.
- Last and more importantly, do not outshine the bride or the bridal party. Always keep in mind that the day is not about you. Make sure that you certainly do not wear anything too glamorous or over-the-top that will outshine the bride.
