Berita Balances Music, Studies, and Stage with Big Dreams

Afro-soul singer and songwriter Berita is proving that you can chase your dreams in more than one direction. The talented artist recently celebrated an important achievement—graduating from the University of Pretoria with an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration. But that’s just the beginning of her journey.

Berita, known for her soulful voice and heartfelt music, told The Citizen that going back to school was a big decision. She wanted to grow not just as an artist, but also as a leader in the business side of the music world. For her, studying business wasn’t just about getting a qualification—it was about understanding how to run her career like a true professional.

“This milestone represents growth and resilience,” she said. “I was inspired by a desire to better navigate the music business and build long-term impact as a creative entrepreneur.”

Balancing her studies with a busy music career was not easy. Berita admitted that there were tough moments, but she didn’t give up. “I stayed focused, managed my time carefully, and leaned on the support of my team and peers,” she shared. “Passion is what kept me going.”

Now, Berita is going even further with her education. She is currently studying for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the Gordon Institute of Business Science, also part of the University of Pretoria. This is one of South Africa’s top business schools, and the program is helping her sharpen her skills even more.

While focusing on her studies, Berita is also hard at work on her music. She revealed that she is preparing to release new songs soon and is excited about blending her creativity with her knowledge of business and her passion for social change.

“I’m exploring ways to merge creativity, business, and social impact,” she said.

Berita is also set to perform at a number of major music events this year. Fans can look forward to seeing her at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz on 26 September—a respected and long-running jazz event. Before that, she will take the stage at the Mayibuye iAfrika Concert at the Joburg Theatre on 28 and 29 June.
