WATCH: Kagiso Rabada concedes 34 runs in two overs in comeback game after drugs ban

Kagiso Rabada made his much-anticipated return to the pitch on Sunday, but the occasion was bittersweet for the Proteas fast bowler as his performance left a lot to be desired.

Playing for the Gujarat Titans in their clash against the Delhi Capitals, Rabada was restricted to just two overs during a match that saw him concede a staggering 34 runs, leading to a rather dubious return after a month-long ban for a failed drugs test.

Stepping onto the field for the first time since 29 March, the 28-year-old faced the challenge of re-establishing himself amidst scrutiny and expectation, but he couldn’t find his rhythm.

The Capitals capitalised on his rustiness, with the Proteas fast bowler smashed for four sixes and a four off his two overs. Rabada’s struggles with the ball undoubtedly impacted the Titans, as he failed to provide the team with the breakthrough they desperately needed.

Despite Rabada’s woes, the Gujarat Titans emerged victorious without losing a single wicket in their chase of the mammoth 199 runs posted by the Delhi Capitals. The Titans chased down the target with ease as Sai Sudharsan struck 108 not out off 61 balls and Shubman Gill unbeaten 93 off 52 balls.

Earlier, fellow Proteas star Tristan Stubbs closed off the Capitals innings with a flurry as he blasted 21 not out off just 10 balls (2×6) to push his team up to 199/3 after KL Rahul’s 112 not out.

It ultimately proved way too little as the Titans eased to victory secure their qualification for the playoffs.
