The SABC have announced that they’ve secured the rights to broadcast Sunday evening’s Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations final between South Africa and Morocco.

Amajita became the darlings of South African sport earlier this week when they defeated Nigeria 1-0 to book their spot in Sunday’s final. Their performances at the tournament confirmed their place in the Under-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.

The coverage of the final in Cairo will begin at 7.30pm on Sunday, with the game kicking off at 8pm.

The match will put South Africa, whose national teams are going through a footballing renaissance, against Morocco, whose senior side made history in Qatar in 2022 when they became the first African nation to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Speaking after win against Nigeria, Amajita coach Raymond Mdaka said he was proud with how his boys adapted during their tough semi-final, where the Flying Eagles were on top for much of the encounter.

“We have a good bunch of players with character, what we know is that we have our own tactics, as do the opponents, but we’re able to adjust,” Mdaka said, as quoted by iDiskitimes.

“Look at the game we played against DRC, it looked like we struggled a bit, even this one [against Nigeria] but we manage the situation and have the character under pressure, we absorb and apply what we want to apply,” Mdaka said after the win.

Mdaka’s team began the tournament with a 1-0 loss to hosts Egypt, but rallied well to finish top of Group A after wins against Tanzania, Sierra Leone, and a draw against Zambia. They then defeated the Democratic Republic of Congo to advance to the semis and book their World Cup spot.

On Thursday, they came up clutch against Nigeria, who have won the tournament a record seven times. South Africa will play in the final for the first time since 1997, where they were beaten by Morocco.
