OPINION – Hatred for former colonisers

The death of Queen Elizabeth has reignited old rather tiresome demands for apologies and reparations for colonialism, slavery, apartheid and all other atrocities that have ever been perpetrated by Europeans on others the Europeans and the British, in particular, are lambasted for the resources they stole from Africans the jewels on the crown of the British monarch. It is claimed that, to this day, the British live in opulence as a result of resources stolen from AfricaSome of those who accuse Europeans of living in opulence at the expense of Africa seem to be of the view that an enormous amount of tangible physical wealth ( it is difficult to imagine in what form, maybe gold) was stolen and transported to Europe so in terms of this view Europeans are either sitting there surveying and admiring stolen wealth or busy playing enjoying this wealth. Africans tend to have a fantastic view of wealth as some magical possession which enables everyone to live in opulence without work which is associated with poverty.

You would think war is something the world has never known until it was invented by Europeans specifically for the purpose of suppressing, oppressing and exploiting Africans but there were wars in Africa before colonialism and property did get confiscated by victors tet no one is demanding apologies and return of stolen property. Europeans fought wars among one another and property did get confiscated no one is expecting endless grovelling apologies for those wars. War has always been an aspect of competition for resources it has played a positive role in the development of mankind. War has always been the most effective way to spread scientific knowledge and engineering knowhow, even the most intellectually lethargic nations were forced to catch up with the latest scientific and technological developments in order to have competitive defense forces

The wealth of Europeans does not consist of anything they stole from anyone it consists of their competent governance and the quality of their citizens, who have scientific and engineering knowhow and the entrepreneurship to use that knowledge to create products and services profitably. Colonialism was necessary to source raw materials to feed the industrial revolutions it should have had the effect of forcing Africans to catch up with European scientific and engineering advances instead of being used, for centuries after colonialism, as an excuse to moan and beg for reparations.

Other continents, such as Asia, with less wimpish people than Africans took colonialism as an opportunity to learn today the second and third largest economies in the world are in Asia. African youth have more time to insult dead British monarchs than to master science, engineering, entrepreneurship and good governance the only innovation South African youth are offering the world is a kind of mass self immolation they achieve by torching the infrastructure of their own country at the slightest provocation, when school rules are enforced the response of our youth is to torch the school perhaps hoping that unlimited reparations from Britain will be used to build another school to torchhttps://www.lemonde.fr/en/le-monde-africa/article/2022/09/10/africa-expresses-mixed-reactions-to-the-death-of-elizabeth-ii_5996452_124.html
