The minister of basic education Angie Motshekga announced on the 6th of February 2022 that all public schools will be operating for full-time and no more rotational classes after considerations with COVID 19 pandemic management, educational sector and society regarding the impact of Covid-19 on rotational classes that has been going on since the start of the pandemic in 2020.
As per the minister announcement, all public schools has resumed to full capacity as of the 7th of February 2022. Learners are no longer skipping days between during the week and everything has gone back to normal despite the case is of the Virus.
Unlike the past two years whereby schools were not operating normally due to surge number of coronavirus cases in the country. In 2022 things have completely changed and Schools reopen the sooner compared to the past two years. For 2022, Schools opened on 12 February 2022.
According today country educational calendar for the current academic year. Schools will open and close in different dates according to provinces. In the inland cluster consisting of Free state, Limpopo, Gauteng, Northwest and Mpumalanga, all public schools will close for recess on the 17th of March 2022 and will resume on the 5th of April 2022.
In the coastal cluster of KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Northern Cape, schools have opened on the 17th of January 2022, And will close on the 25 March 2022. For second term, Schools will reopen on the 05th of April 2021.
