A South African man bearing the name Sthembiso Lamula has been held accountable for the death of a woman and her daughter.
According to reports, the suspect appeared in Pinetown magistrate’s court on April 9, 2021 where he was hit with two counts of murder and kidnapping and was remanded in custody of police until Friday, Apri 16.
The SAPS spokesperson Col Thembeka Mbele disclosed that the police command was hinted about a horrifying scene which happened near the Umgeni River.
He said;
“On arrival the police found the bodies of two female victims packed in a big suitcase and dumped. The bodies were later identified as 36-year-old mother Simangele Simamane and her daughter, Sbongakonke Mthembu, 13. The victims had multiple injuries on their bodies and their necks were tied with a rope,” said Mbele.
According to her, the 36 year old woman called Simangele Simamane had open wounds on the back of her head and multiples injuries on her body. Her daughter also had bruises on her neck and stab wound on her left hip.
Mbele said;
“Her daughter had bruises on the neck and a stab wound on the left hip. It is alleged that the victims were kidnapped before they were killed,”
The police officers were alerted after six months on April 7 that Sthembiso was “back from hiding and was roaming the streets of KwaMashu”. He said;
“They proceeded to his place of residence in KwaMashu and he was arrested. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are imminent”
