Plan International Ghana has officially launched a €1.36 million Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project aimed at improving the lives of over 14,700 vulnerable individuals in Guan in the Oti Region and Wa East District in the Upper West Region.

The €1.36m WASH project is the second phase of the Integrated Package for Sustainable Community Development (I-PADEV), and it will focus on 16 communities and 18 schools across the Guan and Wa East Districts.

The project, according to the Project Manager of I-PADEV, Mr. William Domapielle, is designed to provide sustainable, solar-powered water systems and gender-responsive sanitation facilities to safeguard the health and growth of children, particularly girls.

Mr. Domapielle explained that the second phase of the I-PADEV will benefit 14,766 community members, including over 7,000 women and girls.

“The project is programmed to reduce school absenteeism among girls by providing female-friendly toilet facilities and changing rooms for menstrual hygiene management.

This aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on universal and equitable access to safe water and sanitation,” he noted.

The I-PADEV project focuses on improving WASH facilities, environmental conditions, and reproductive health education in communities across Ghana.

Speaking at the launch event in Accra on March 4, 2026, the Acting Country Director of Plan International Ghana, Mr. Frederick Tei-Nobi, emphasised that the intervention extends far beyond basic infrastructure.

“Access to improved WASH services is not only a health issue; it is a matter of dignity and equality. When a girl no longer misses school because she is searching for water or lacks a decent toilet facility, her future changes,” Mr. Tei-Nobi stated.

The second phase of the initiative is funded by the German National Office (GNO) and implemented by Plan International Ghana.
