Immigration, Army Collaborates To Enhance Security In Plateau – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

In a renewed effort to bolster inter-agency cooperation and strengthen the security architecture in Plateau State, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigerian Army (NA) have reaffirmed their commitment to enhanced collaboration in addressing emerging security challenges.

The Comptroller of Immigration, Plateau State Command, Comptroller of Immigration Service (CIS) MU Abang, made this known during a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army and Commander, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), Major General EF Oyinlola at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Olumide Olukoya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Division Nigerian Army, “The visit formed part of CIS Abang’s familiarization tour following her recent assumption of duty. It also provided an opportunity to strengthen existing ties with 3 Division and seek continued support for NIS operations and capacity development initiatives.”

Speaking during the visit, CIS Abang commended the Nigerian Army for its professionalism and sustained efforts in maintaining peace and stability across Plateau State. She underscored the importance of fostering an open-door policy between the NIS and the NA to promote seamless coordination and operational effectiveness.

She further highlighted the critical role of enhanced collaboration with 3 Division in the execution of key responsibilities, including migration management, border security, surveillance, and the control of trans-border and other related crimes. According to her, strengthened synergy between both agencies would significantly improve the NIS’s capacity to contribute to national security. She also appealed for the GOC’s support in the training of NIS personnel to enhance service delivery.

In his response, Major General Folusho Oyinlola congratulated CIS Abang on her appointment and expressed appreciation for the visit. He reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to maintaining a strong and cordial relationship with the NIS.

The GOC emphasized that effective collaboration among security agencies remains indispensable to achieving lasting national security, noting that a unified approach enhances operational efficiency and impact. He also called for improved intelligence sharing from the NIS to enable the Nigerian Army take proactive measures in addressing security challenges. Furthermore, he encouraged sustained engagement with the Division and reiterated the Army’s readiness to support the NIS in all necessary areas to ensure enduring peace in Plateau State.

Highlights of the event were the exchange of souvenirs, the signing of visitors’ book, and group photograph.
