Melcom Limited has issued a denial of reports suggesting that a building belonging to the retail giant collapsed at Avenor in Accra, stating emphatically that the structure that gave way does not belong to nor is it associated with the company.

In a press release dated Sunday, June 7, 2026, Melcom acknowledged that a building within the vicinity of Ashfoam and Melcom Plus had collapsed but clarified that the company had no connection to the incident.

“We wish to state emphatically that the building that collapsed does not belong to nor is it associated with Melcom. The said building is within the vicinity of Ashfoam and Melcom Plus,” the statement read.

While distancing itself from the incident, Melcom expressed sympathies to all those who might have been affected by the building collapse.

“We express our sympathies to all those who might have been affected by the said collapsed building,” the company stated.

Melcom assured its cherished customers, business partners, employees and the general public that none of its buildings or facilities at Avenor or any part of the country has collapsed.

“As a responsible corporate entity that prioritises the safety and well-being of customers, employees, and stakeholders, Melcom maintains rigorous standards regarding the structural integrity and maintenance of all its buildings and operational facilities,” the statement said.

The company emphasised that its stores, including Melcom Plus and all other Melcom locations, remain safe, secure and fully operational for shopping and all legitimate business activities.

Melcom disclosed that all its properties go through an independent structural integrity assessment by qualified, certified and registered engineers to certify them as safe before occupation and operations for the safety of all customers and staff.

The company encouraged its valued customers to continue visiting its stores with confidence, knowing that the safety of all who enter its premises remains the utmost priority.

Melcom said it would continue to monitor developments regarding the incident and joined the nation in wishing those affected a swift recovery.
