India and South Africa: Shaping a New World Order

India is poised to play a significant role in the transformation of the post-World War II world order, now teetering on the verge of collapse. South African Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Zuko Godlimpi, addressed this pivotal issue during the 2nd annual India-South Africa Business Conclave in Pretoria.

Godlimpi noted that as a young democracy born two years after World War II, India now finds itself in a distinct position. By the centenary of its independence in 2047, India aims to transition from a junior partner to a senior partner in crafting this new world order. The strategic alliance between India and South Africa is deeply rooted in development, industrialization, and global economic reform, challenging the status quo at international forums like the WTO.

The partnership extends beyond trade, which exceeds USD 12 billion annually, delving into moral, political, and technological domains. Key areas for investment and cooperation include renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, critical minerals, agro industries, and information technology. Godlimpi emphasized the importance of sustainable access to critical minerals, urging India to forge supply-chain partnerships with African nations.
