Xiaomi will soon update the Mix Fold line of folding cell phones. According to patents filed with a US regulatory agency, the next competitor to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 may have stylus support, as well as a different look than the current flexible smartphone offered by the Chinese brand.
The designs provided in the documentation show a device with a bend in the vertical axis and sides that are apparently straighter than those seen in Mi Mix Fold. Some features of the illustration can be strange, such as the existence of only one camera on the rear panel, and front section with a very thick bottom edge — in any case, the patent does not necessarily represent the finished look of the device, and changes may happen until the presentation official.

The drawings don’t reveal many details about the stylus pen, but they do indicate that it can be magnetically attached to the left side section of the device. It’s likely to have a softer-tipped construction to prevent damage from being done to the flexible display, similar to what Samsung did with the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Xiaomi has not confirmed the existence of the device, but it is likely to retain top-of-the-line features. Therefore, the new folding can come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, and at least 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. The company is yet to adopt a 108 MP or 50 MP main camera, an internal display with QHD+ resolution and support for high refresh rate on both panels.
The company will be able to increase its investments in folding smartphones, as it will also be able to present a more compact model and similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 3, according to other patents also discovered recently. It is possible that the new cell phones will be introduced around March 2022, to complete a cycle of approximately one year between each generation of the Mix Fold line.
