Google Duo can receive two valuable features to enhance video calls and virtual conversations. As with Zoom, meeting participants can be divided into smaller groups with “Breakout rooms”, without the need for hacks. In addition, conferences held on the platform can be broadcast live or recorded.
The news is still in a very preliminary stage, as shown by the XDA Developers website. Both were found in lines of code contained in version 159.0.425779378 of the Android app and, for now, are not ready to be released to users.
The most interesting addition, the “Breakout rooms”, would be a way to separate the participants of the same meeting into smaller groups, either to facilitate group dynamics at a distance or to facilitate discussions between co-workers. The novelty already exists on platforms such as Zoom, Teams and Meet, the “little brother” of Google Duo.

As the strings found by the XDA Developers website suggest, the function will keep users informed about when “Breakout rooms” are activated and when they are finished. It is not known, however, how the tool will look when it is ready.
Recorded and streamed meetings on Duo
The second feature found in development on Google Duo is the ability to record and stream video calls. With the tool, coworkers can keep the chats stored for later reference and, in the case of larger companies, could show the conversation to more people without having to include everyone in the room.

As the features were found in Google Duo’s lines of code, there is no forecast for their general release. It is likely that Google is still developing both functions and will only make it available to the public later.
