TEAMGROUP announces its 1st PCIe 5.0 SSD for gaming with a speed of 13 GB/s –

TEAMGROUP announced on its official website the first SSD model prepared for the new PCIe 5.0 bus dedicated to gamers. A member of the T-FORCE CARDEA family, the novelty promises read speeds of up to 13 GB/s, almost double that seen in PCIe 4.0 models, and should hit the market in 2022.

T-Force CARDEA is the brand’s 1st PCIe 5.0 SSD for gaming

Without disclosing the full specifications, TEAMGROUP detailed the proposal for the new SSD, and information such as capacity and speed. The novelty will be part of the T-FORCE sub-brand, aimed at gamers, and will integrate the CARDEA advanced line, in models with a capacity of up to 4 TB. The big highlight is the support for the PCIe 5.0 bus, which hit the market recently with the debut of Intel’s 12th generation Alder Lake processors.

Thanks to the new communication system, which doubles transfer rates compared to the still “popular” PCIe 4.0, the component reaches 13 GB/s read and 12 GB/s write speeds. In comparison, the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSDs reach speeds close to 8 GB/s after a few years of improvements, which indicates that we can expect similar advancements for PCIe 5.0 solutions.

Another interesting novelty is support for the NVMe 2.0 protocol — announced in June last year, the standard promises to boost the durability, speed and capacity of storage devices by employing technologies that allow more granular access to data, cooperative work between SSD and the host machine for organizing information, as well as easy access with a single key, among other novelties.

In addition to the new CARDEA PCIe 5.0, TEAMGROUP also revealed that it plans to launch new cooling solutions for this model and other SSDs it plans to announce in the coming months. We are likely to see more solutions similar to the Liquid II, where the company has implemented a liquid cooling system for the component.

price and availability

TEAMGROUP has not yet announced how much it intends to charge for the new CARDEA, but has revealed that it is expected to start mass production of the PCIe 5.0 SSD in Q3 2022, between July and September, without giving specific release dates, however.
